Mike Hill

Interview by: Death Machines

Name/Age/Location:

Mike Hill, 41 Years Old, Atlanta GA

First off, why do they call you the hitman?

I got the name the “Hitman” because I was always a hired gun to race in high-dollar grudge races.

What series are you planning on running full time in 2010?

I would like to continue to race the ADRL series, most definitely and continue with the ORSCA automatic promod series locally.

How have you like running in the ADRL?

I love ADRL, it’s one of the most exciting racing series alive.

What other series have you ran in?

Mainly ORSCA and the ADRL; I am always racing in big heads-up events.

So word is you have been in Qatar.  What’s up with that?

Yes I have been in Qatar helping out with the Outlaw 10.5 cars.  My ex-outlaw 10.5 Mustang and a new Z-06 Corvette built for Outlaw 10.5 are in Qatar also.  Both are running very fast.  I actually enjoy being there.

Are you riding with the Sheik?  Are you on the pay roll?

Am I riding with the Sheik?  Hmm, good question.  The sheik is a person that loves drag racing probably more than any other man in this world.  He is very hard-core and determined to put together the best teams in the world.  I personally don’t think there’s a man in the world that wouldn’t take the opportunity to ride with him if approached, especially when you love the same sport as much as he does.  I love drag racing and right now the Sheik Khalid/Al-Anabi racing, Awesome Motorsports, and Speedtech are giving me the opportunity to do what I love and to continue to learn from some of the best.

How are the tracks over there in Qatar?

The track in Qatar is an awesome facility.  It’s probably one of the nicest you will ever see and it hooks better than any you will ever find.  It could easily be rated as one of the top dragstrips ever.

Over the past few years I have seen you in a few different cars and every one I have seen so far has had an amazing paint job.  Can you tell me about some of your cars?  Are they all nitrous?

Well I used to be only a Mustang guy but lately I have been changing it up some.  Most paint schemes are done by Burke Designs, who does awesome design work.  And yes they are all nitrous so far, but not saying I wouldn’t love to blast one of them blower cars off a couple of times.

I go to meet a few of the guys on your crew at some ADRL races, they were all mad cool.  Can you give us their names along with their rolls?

Right now it’s mainly just Scottie, Telly, and I who do all of the work with my team.  I do all the tuning and Telly and Scotty share round-byround maintenance of preparing the car before each round.  They are very dedicated to the team.

Have you ever been involved with match racing?  If so, what is the most you ever won or lost?

I do a lot of match racing and some grudge racing.  The most I have ever won was hen I was racing a heads-up Outlaw 10.5 race that George Howard threw.  The race was for $50,000.  It was actually the first race ever in my 2006 Outlaw 10.5 Mustang.

Can you tell me about some of the 1/8 mile match racing down south?  Every video I have seen, the tracks are jammed packed.

People in the south love match-racing and grudge racing.  We’ve packed almost every track around with this type of racing.  They love the trash talking and they know we are serious about beating each other.

What makes you want to keep on drag racing?

The love I have for drag racing is what makes me want to keep on doing it.  All I do is think about how and what it takes to improve my program every day and night of the week.  I am serious, I really think of how to go faster 24/7; it’s crazy.

Are you into any other types of racing?

No, just drag racing.

What do you drive everyday?

Either my F-150 or my F-350 dually, nothing special.

What is your 9 to 5?

I have been doing the towing and auto transport business for years but it has really been on the down slope as are many other businesses.  That is why I would really love to make drag racing my living one day.  It would be nice to have your job as something you love to do everyday.

What are your top 3 favorite magazines?

Drag Illustrated, Adrenaline Magazine and HotRod Magazine

What are your top 3 websites?

Grudgeracer.com, YellowBullet.com, Promodified.us and can’t forget Outlawracing.com

What do you do for a good time?

Just racing mainly and spending time with my daughter and the family.  I can’t wait to try the drifting thing though.

Do you have any other hobbies?

It may sound boring but I really eat and sleep drag racing.  I really have no other hobbies.

What is your favorite song on your iPod?

I dont’ own an iPod but I have been thinking of purchasing one lately.

Is there anyone you would like to thank?

I would like to thank you for doing this interview and being a fan.  Thanks to the guys at Al-Anabi/Awesome Motorsports Racing, Shannon Jenkins and Speedtech Nitrous for giving me the opportunity to see another part of the world for the first time in my life and hopefully I can continue to see more.  Thanks to the many, many fans and people who have supported Mike Hill Racing over the years; hopefully they know how inspiring they have been to me in continuing to do what I do.  The fans are really important to every racer and hopefully they know that.  Thanks!
