Conrad Grunewald New Jersey 2011

Saturday, June 25th, 2011

Congrats to Conrad Grunewald who captured his first top spot on the podium last week in Wall NJ, after a great set of runs that were captured by Lab 17. Here is a recap of his day, which ended with alot of champagne being tossed into the air! There is also great footage of Ryan Tuerck’s crash for those of you who weren’t on hand to catch the drama first hand.

As you all may already know, it’s been crazy lately and besides the Live Feed for Formula D Atlanta we haven’t touched on the event itself! More on that to come soon, but I wanted to share this video first because this was a really intense moment for me during the event! Most of you have already seen the new Camaro debutted by Gardella Racing & Ryan Tuerck this weekend, and personally I cannot believe how well Ryan stepped into that car and became familiar with it on such a short notice. Which brings me to this moment during competition because I was on the edge of my seat at this point. Ryan had just ran and was sitting on top of the qualifying ladder while I was biting my nails, praying that he would take home #1 qualifyer during the first outting with his new Camaro. Ironically Conrad Grunewald was next in line with his Camaro and he was running well all day even during practice. He got the green light and began to initiate his first turn, looking as if he may have entered a little to fast or as the drifters like to say, “a little to hot.” It was at this moment that I knew he locked up the #1 position, watch the video because I’m not sure we will see a more intense entry between now and the rest of the season. For a minute I thought he was going to lose control, but he pulled it off, as well as pulled off one amazing qualifying run after another! Huge props to Conrad for winning the Retaks Insane Entry Award in Atlanta 2011!
I’m sure after this event everyone’s thoughts on whether or not a Camaro makes a quality drift car will be reconsidered!
