Group Home – Livin’ Proof

Sunday, April 17th, 2011

During the Live Feed for Formula Drift last weekend I was pleasantly surprised to hear the instrumentals for this song being played during the downtime. (Thx Live Feed)

The duo of Lil Dap and Melachi the Nutcracker became popular the the Gang Starr Foundation under Guru & Premier, and with Premier’s beats and Guru’s knowledge they quickly rose to fame in the 90′s. They have been relatively quiet with single releases since then but it was Premier’s beats that seemed to have really brought them to life back in the day.

RIP GURU

Keith Murray – Throwback

Friday, April 1st, 2011

just cause I’ve been slacking on the Thursday Throwbacks, I’m a day late, but these Keith Murray joints should make up for that!

His first album, The Most Beautifullest Thing in This World, was released in 1994 on Jive Records. The title track from this album remains Murray’s biggest solo hit. This album was given 4 mics by The Source.

5 POINTZ NYC

Sunday, March 13th, 2011

-The only legal aerosol outlet in New York City

5Pointz Aerosol Art Center aka “The Institute of Higher Burnin,” is a 200,000 square foot building in Long Island City, NY that covers one city block, which consists of 5 industrial floors, and serves as a canvas for some of the most incredible graffiti in the world. Graf artists flock from the furthest reaches of the globe in order to create a piece, take a photo, and not have to worry about the results of breaking any law.
The gallery curator is graffiti veteran Jonathan Cohen, best known by his signature tag, “Meres One,” and this is what he has to say about the building he is trying to convert into a graffiti museum.

Juice Soundtrack (Throwback)

Saturday, January 29th, 2011

The movie was shot in NYC in 1992, it featured a young 2Pac Shakur who played the role of Bishop, and Omar Epps who starred as Q. It was instrumental in exposing what life was like as an inner city kid who was growing up in NYC during that time. Juice also features cameo appearances by Queen Latifah, EPMD, Special Ed, Ed Lover, Doctor Dré, Flex Alexander, Fab Five Freddy, and Treach.
Sadly the song was one of Eric B and Rakim’s final songs together, it was the theme song for the film and a single released from the duo’s 1992 album “Don’t Sweat The Technique.” Although the whole “Juice Original Motion Picture Soundtrack” was off the hook, this was the most successful song. Rakim was always known to be a great story teller, and I truly feel this was one of the best stories that he put together!
The second most popular song off the album was “Uptown Anthem” by, Naughty By Nature. It was also released on their self titled album, Naughty By Nature in 1991! To make it even sweeter, Treach had an acting role in the film, (this was his first acting appearance), “We gotta break, We gotta bash, We gotta roll, We gotta smash”

Beastie Boys Throwback

Thursday, January 20th, 2011

“If you can feel what I’m feeling then it’s a musical masterpiece
But if you can hear what I’m dealing with then that’s cool at least”

“Sweeter Than A Cherry Pie With Ready Whip Topping”

Two joints off of the third Beastie Boys album Check Your Head dating back to 1991. Mike D, MCA, & Ad-Rock went really hard on this album, by not only laying the vocals but also playing the instruments on all of the tracks!
